Uploading a large number of files to your web hosting space can be challenging, especially if your internet connection is unstable. Additionally, most FTP clients open a new connection for each file in the upload queue, which significantly increases the total upload time. The more files you upload, the longer the process takes.
To address this, TrexHost has included a useful feature in the File Manager tool of your Control Panel—the ability to upload a compressed archive and extract it directly on the server.
Step-by-Step Guide
1. Create a Compressed Archive
If you’re uploading an entire website, start by archiving all your files into a single compressed file using a free archiving tool such as:
- WinRAR
- 7-Zip
- WinZip
Archive formats supported by our File Manager include:
.zip.rar.tar.gz
2. Upload the Archive
Upload the archive file to the desired folder on your hosting account. For example:

You can upload the file using either:
- FTP client – Upload the archive as you would any other file
- File Manager – Navigate to Files > File Manager and use the Upload feature
3. Locate the Archive
Once uploaded, open the File Manager and navigate to the folder where you uploaded the archive. You should see the file listed in the directory.
4. Extract the Archive
To unpack the archive files into the current folder:
- Right-click on the archive file.
- A context menu will appear with several options.
- Select the Extract option.
The files will be extracted and placed in the current directory.
5. Create Archives (Compress Folders)
You can also create compressed archives directly within File Manager:
- Select the folder you wish to compress.
- Click the Compress icon.
- Choose the archive format:
.zip.rar.tar.gz
- The folder will be archived into a single compressed file.
This is especially useful for downloading entire folders at once.
